CURIOCITY introduces The Black Route Wine Experience, an immersive storytelling journey through South Africa’s first generation of winemakers — a celebration of culture, heritage, and excellence led by pioneering Black winemakers and culinary creatives. This full-day experience takes guests beyond the vineyards, into the personal stories and legacies that continue to shape the industry.
Seven Sisters Vineyards – Pioneers of Heritage and Resilience
Location: Pikketberg Road, Stellenbosch
Duration: 2 hours
The Seven Sisters Vineyard tells a remarkable story of seven determined women — the Brutus sisters — who turned their family’s love of wine into a legacy brand. Each sister represents a wine with a unique personality, reflecting their bond and journey from being uprooted during apartheid to reclaiming their place in South Africa’s winemaking story.
Guests will be welcomed by a host storyteller who brings this journey to life through personal anecdotes and family heritage. A guided wine tasting follows, featuring a selection of their finest wines paired with light snacks, celebrating the strength, perseverance, and sisterhood behind the label.
Aslina Wines – A Vision by Ntsiki Biyela
Location: Aslina Wines Tasting Studio, Stellenbosch
Duration: 1.5 hours
Founded by Ntsiki Biyela, South Africa’s first Black female winemaker, Aslina Wines is a symbol of excellence and empowerment. Ntsiki named the brand after her grandmother, Aslina, who inspired her values of strength and grace.
Guests enjoy a private wine tasting hosted by Ntsiki, gaining insight into her journey from rural KwaZulu-Natal to global recognition. Tastings include elegant wines that mirror her philosophy — rich in character, culture, and craftsmanship.
Harris Kitchen – Afro-Fusion Culinary Experience
Location: Paarl
Duration: 1.5 hours
At Harris Kitchen, guests indulge in modern Afro-fusion cuisine — a blend of traditional South African flavours and contemporary flair. Expect dishes like braised oxtail, grilled line fish, pap croquettes, and spicy chakalaka, all plated with fine-dining presentation.
Chef Harris brings warmth and storytelling to every plate, offering a taste of culture, creativity, and community. This lunch stop celebrates the artistry of Black chefs shaping South Africa’s culinary identity.
Klein Goederust Boutique Winery – The Heart of Franschhoek’s Transformation
Location: Franschhoek
Duration: 1 hour
The final stop is Klein Goederust, the first Black-owned wine farm in Franschhoek, founded by Paul Siguqa, son of a farm labourer. His inspiring journey from humble beginnings to ownership reflects a powerful shift in the South African wine landscape.
One of the estate’s standout wines, Nomaroma, is named in honour of Paul’s mother — a tribute to her strength and sacrifice. Guests will enjoy a wine tasting and storytelling session that brings Paul’s dream full circle: from working the land to producing wines that now carry his family’s name with pride.
